Liposuction and Body Feminization Surgery

Some people contact a transgender care center to ask about liposuction and body feminization surgery. An integral part of the male-to-female transition is body feminization surgery. A slimmer waist, larger breasts, and a fuller posterior help feminize a body. Some surgeries can be performed together to get the desired effect, such as MTF breast and butt augmentations; liposuction is also a valuable tool.

Liposuction and Lipsculpting to Feminize the Body

The male body tends to be apple-shaped, and most fat concentrates in the midriff. Women usually have a pear-shaped body, with fat concentrated around the hips, buttocks, and thighs. Liposuction can remove fat. It can also be used as part of body feminization surgery to create well-defined curves. Trunk liposuction lowers the waist-to-hip ratio to create a feminine tapered waist and hourglass figure.

Steps in the Liposuction Procedure

Liposuction is performed as an outpatient. Local anesthesia is often administered to prevent discomfort and pain during the procedure. A cannula is inserted through small incisions made in target areas. The cannula will loosen fat cells, and suction removes fat cells. The process takes one to two hours but will vary depending on the area size.

After the Procedure

After undergoing liposuction, patients will have to wear compression garments. The garments help the skin conform to the new body contours and reduce swelling following liposuction as part of the body feminization surgery. There may be discomfort, bruising, or swelling for a few days.
